Given that sin destroys our relationship with God and undermines our relationship with other human beings, ‘reconciliation’ designates that precise effect of Christ’s redemption of the human race that restores our relationship with God and our human fellowship.

God reconciles the world to himself (2 Cor 5:18 ) by the cross of Christ, which breaks down the barriers that sin raises between us and God, and within the human community. Rather, the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit whom he has given to us ( Rom 5:5 ). It is a change in the total state of our lives.

Our conversion from sin and reception of divine mercy are continually renewed by confession. Serious sin separates us from the body of the church, and sacramental penance reconciles us with God and the community of his people.

This sacrament is also referred to as the sacrament of penance or confession.​

Before celebrating the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, be sure to prepare with an examination of conscience. [One is also available outside the confessional in the churches]. Reconciliation may be celebrated face-to-face or anonymously, with a screen between you and the priest. Choose the option that is the most comfortable for you.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated at 12 Noon on Saturdays at St. John’s, and by appointment.
